Why do so few regularly play Sentinel?

Funny thread. Sentinel not versatile? They can do everything besides chasing, though on small maps it is very viable. I am heavy 24/7, besides when im smurfing, but the fact remains that sentinels are versatile and when a player knows how to play them they will be as good as you but oh snap they got more hp I win.

Sentinel if anyone ever used it is actually quite Overpowered. I mean More health IOD, more ammo, it has specialist weapons, and it's really intimidating if you actually play agaisnt a good player because of again the fact that a Sent can Instant OD into your face which is disorienting.

I think no one plays as a Sent mostly because of the fact that

1) It takes Practice
2) Practicing on Sent without being picked off by those annoying snipers and that huge swarm of defenders at the enemy base usually consists of you sitting at the flag and waiting for a capper
3) It's really *dancing* heavy

I mean in a game where if you didn't start out with the Sentinel you're used to going at least 70 by just falling off the base and going in a straight line with your jets. Now you get to go so slowly (By doing the same thing) that someone can sit there and use you as a personal shooting gallery.

I think you're only looking at the versatility of the Sent in one particular way. Sure, it can do any number of things as long as it's in capable hands, but it isn't very good when it comes to responding to a changing situation.

For example, with Raider and Outrider, correcting your course mid run (let's say, switching from a flag run to intercept the enemy capper) when it's pertinent isn't terribly tricky. With Sent, it's darned near impossible. Also, as Carnage will tell you, there is a very slim margin of error when capping with the Sent; straying from your route even a little and you're quite likely to end up at a dead crawl.

HO is quite tricky as well, as it's very difficult to swoop in unexpected and get the drop on the enemy flag carrier. You simply can't alter your course that well without slowing down, and you're likely to completely miss your target if you have in anyway overshot, or if he moves.

In other words, Sent can't improvise that well at all. Of course, this won't be such a bummer once it gets mortars. *crosses fingers*

Where is Carnage when you need him? Yeah, I agree sents does have limitations but when you have gain control into that class, you would think a lot of versatility in it. I've been trying to use sents for capping(credits: Carnage), it's like the same with the other classes if you get used to it.

Since when was this game about recognition? Your hands must get very sweaty when playing..

I haven't played around with the Sent that much. It's a heavy class, comprises speed for more health.. blah blah etc. I just think it doesn't offer the excitement you get when playing as Raider or Outrider. Not only because of the speed factor, but also because people seem to hate you for playing it. I myself hate players who use Sentinel. However, that doesn't mean it isn't a good class. Quite the opposite, it's on the verge of being overpowered, at least in the hands of Trooper/Tomstoiler.

I'll give it a try and tell you what I think.

Have you ever played in a PuG before? Most likely not...

NOOOOOOO! Seymour please don't let them change the sent. Please! Who wants a bunch of noob sents running around? It's fine as it is. Let it stay a specialist class.

You kinda missed the message in Seymour's post. At the moment Sentinel(Heavy) is not really needed for anything. Everything Sent can do can be done better with other classes if player is skilled enough. There is no reason for HO and not really for HoF either. In the future there will be and this change will be good for everyone.

Sent is not fine as it is. It's OP capper on small maps, it doesn't have fire power that heavy class should have and it's pretty useless on flag these days when players has improved their aim so much that I would rather have 3 LD than 1 HoF + 2 LD on pretty much any map.

Argue as much as you like. Sent is going to change just like LR did no matter what you guys want/say. According to all the leaks, there will be so much changes coming on our way that it's not only sent players who needs to worry about what will happen to their precious class and the way they play the game atm! HAHAAHAHAHAHA.

I remember how some of the skilled sent players used to butt-rape everyone in DM on small maps... Sents definitely aren't very up, but they aren't used a lot cos people just prefer to play with something easier. It's the same with LR and GL.

And are you smart now for making that comment? No I haven't, but I'm certainly more involved than you and I definitely plan to take part in future pugs. What's your point here?

The gaming realia of PUBs and PUGs differ a lot. To make it short I'll just say that the team role of each loadout only becomes apparent in a PuG. If you are a PUB-only player all you can do is guess what role should each loadout play in a properly organized CTF.

Asides from that for some the game might be at least slightly about recognition. And Immanent might've wanted to annoy you by his answer, but he did make a point.

I think you need to check in to your nearest clinic. You are nuts. Heavy is really useful in the hands of a good player and can do a lot of things that other classes cannot do, even if they are good. It is not OP capper because it is slow and the OD takes so much health and it can be stopped mid-OD by an outrider simply standing on the flag. I agree that it could use better fire power. As far as your 3 LD thing goes that is just one option. If you have good LD they can keep the LO away from the HoF. And to say that we have no choice is silly. I know that they devs listen to us. This is not some nepotistic oligarchy.

You tell me that this is what they should listen? :)

If you gonna ram into OR standing on the stand while trying to grab the flag then you're doing something terribly wrong. On small maps the speed sent can archive is not very slow really. My point to have 3 LD rather than putting one as HoF is simple since I find 2 chasers to be far more effective on most maps than HoF that will eventually fail against cap train.

True thing is that good chasers are rare and unfortunately I can't get them all on a single team on PUGs to prove this to be the best way to play the game. Has happend few times tho when other team captain didn't have a clue who to pick on first few rounds. Fortunate is that there's been increasement of good chasers lately. More chance to get few of them on the same team!

Hohohoho, no worries about Sent being changed for the worse, She'll be as big and bossy as ever, if not bigger and bossier!
