I cant really suggest a better solution than HK as singapore for what ever reason gave many bad ping (tho an upgraded server 'may' have solved this) , I guess Aust is geographically to far away for Asia and Aussies to play together 
Not that I remember those outside the general HK area ever getting good ping either, guess quality of internet has a lot to do with it eg. 200 + for me to HK yet only 250 to America.
When I upgrade to a new macbook (probably bout a month) I will set up a server here on my old one if the OD crew come to the party to make it happen as discussed, and see how it goes, until then I doubt I will be playing much if at all.

I think Tokyo, Japan has a good connection as a server.
