Let's talk about the current clusters

I feel that the clusters should be more different, as they were the old specialist class of the Grenade Launcher. Take the Laser Rifle 2 for example. It had quicker recharge, more ammo, and more damage than the standard LR. So what I am proposing for the current Cluster is:
  1. Increase the number of bomblettes BUT, reduce the damage done to slightly more than what it is currently at. This is because, as I see it, I would chose the regular grenade launcher over the cluster because of it's insane Rate of Fire. So in a sense, I think that the increase of the number of bomblettes released would balance it out.
  2. Addressing Point #1 to a further degree of detail. You may be thinking, why not just bring back the GL2 back to raider and make that darned thing OP (if you did not read Point #1 carefully). To nerf the OPness of this weapon, the damage potential would be limited whilst increasing the hit area of the bomblettes. So currently the Cluster does approx 45-50% damage on the Raider's health. I propose: Crank up the number of bomblettes released to more than now (I'd say 70-80% of the number of GL2 bomblettes released) and increase that damage on the raider to 50-60%.
  3. Another annoying thing with the Cluster while using the boost nade is that once you throw the nade and shoot a cluster in the same order without changing your aim, you will find that your cluster just explodes pointlessly in the air causing you damage, and nothing else. Can this be fixed, because it is just outright inconvenient in every respect. However I am aware that this is a tactic used to disarm cluster mines.
  4. I realize that my 3rd post is actually my playing style. However, I do admit, the blast radius of the boost nade is pretty damn big, and it really shouldn't set off a cluster. IMO the hitbox of the boost nade should be reduced as well to prevent this.
  5. Also the fact that the cluster nade doesn't explode on impact (MA's at close range) is seriously depressing and really hinders you. Short Anecdote: I was chasing a dude, shot a cluster at him thinking it was an ordinary nade, and it bounced off HIM and hit ME. Yes I died. This all happened in mid-air. :(

T'was not long at all. But beyond that, I agree.. Right now, it seems kinda seems more like a bomb-shotgun combo than a cluster bomb. I'm good with more bomblets but less damage per hit.

i agree with the idea of more bomblets, while the cluster does look like quite a powerful weapon at first, it actually is quite hard to cause damage in a similar scale to the RL or CG now it got a (perfectly reasonable) nerf so that it could work well with the raider.

Cluster is my class I use it for ground shots its pretty strong if you get a direct hit but I agree with the post.

IF it were to be used as a mine, why not just use the mortar... It sure beats holding down the left click button for 30 secs.

Only SLIGHTLY more powerful than a rocket MA. Not worth the time invested...

Very well Abandoned.

My opinion is that the low amount of bomblettes just kills the feel of the cluster. This is probably just because I'm used to the old one, which I use (used) a lot, but still worth mentioning. The other thing to consider is people spamming air bursts of clusters for cheap hits, and of course lag.

So either add more clusters, or reduce spread. Either would be an improvement, but both probably wouldn't work.

I don't agree the points made before me. Cluster seems to be fine as it is right now. Maybe people wants it to be more easy to use ie have more ground to cover when launched, but doesn't this take out skill out of the use of this weapon and making those last bit of health capper kills a lot more easier?

Atm the weapon is very powerful when you are able to time the shot. I've played cluster loadouts fairly often so I'm quite qualified to say this. Those who truly master the weapon are actually making the weapon OP and that's what we don't want. Imo reduce the damage and keep the bomblettes as they are.

I understand your point and it is quite true. As playing in 10 ping in the SG server, it seems very easy to time the shot, but maybe not to others that are 80+ ping (a large majority). They may find it disappointing because they could just spam the GL instead. TBH the only masters of this weapon I've seen are extremely low pingers, that being said, there are simply not enough players to make this weapon OP, unlike the chaingun.

Also, I have re-iterated, the full damage potential of the clusters on a raider does only ever so slightly more damage than MAs (I'd hazard a guess at 60% damage) , where as a rocket MA does 54%.. hmm.

DeadGuy, I just tested it on the Illinois server (hard to due to 280+ ping) but I managed to get some results: When I clustered myself (by shooting it up and releasing it at the right time) I managed to get myself down to approx quarter hp. So 75%, and I did another test on U8er, and did 63% so it's definitely somewhere in between this, if you could confirm max damage that would be great. I think it is a little bit OP now that you upgraded it, but reducing the max potential damage to 70% max, would be just fine imo. All these damage calculations were done on raider.
