I think there could be a way to code a new master server if that ever happens.
This game will still run, it can't be shutdown, just the master servers would be.
Look at tribes2, two guys made new master servers.

Let me guess. A new map will come out that everyone will bitch about how it sucks and will eventually never see due to the Frostbite/Nivosos on tour rotation. Going on Steam would be great, getting tired of some of the same peckerheads joining a perfectly decent game of CTF and ruining it all for everybody.
