250+ Cap Routes

Great to see a bunch of speedy routes. I would find it even more interesting if it were done with the Raider though, do you have any of those too?

It's weird how people can come up with the same route. I found the same route as this one, only the start is a little different, but the two last gloves before the grab are totally the same.

Yep, because the slopes are designed by the map editor to lead to a certain place. Therefore, people can easily find the same route.

There are important differences though. The start up is key. The route I take to begin is the fastest way to get to an effective height for landing; in a pickup game, that makes a huge difference. It also is incredibly versatile. You can use 0, 1, or 2 disc jumps. You can abbreviate the route to a simple side route if necessary (such as an e-grab). And last, because momentum is soooo easy to lose in Legions, people who run the same route can have differences of 70km/h.

And so long as the maps are enclosed there are only so many options, and the most effective routes in pickups (ie. grabs that make it home) will get repeated and become bread and butter.

phan, it runs in the 230s-240s consistently with 1 rj. The maximum grab I've gotten to the first hill after stand is 289. Something as simple as a boost jump at the apex would provide the extra height traded for little hp. I'm also bouncing around from 180-320 ping in that Stygian video if you couldn't tell :p.

Yes, I figured that out. You get a lot higher with your start up than my start up.

Forgotten: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk2k7FWssuQ
  • I decided to start with Forgotten for a few reasons. First, I've never really bothered to make a route for the map before and figured it would be a good way to learn it. Second, the terrain made it really easy and the whole process took less than 3 hours to figure out all four routes and make the video. Third, I figured it might make a few people decide it's more fun to do routes rather than front cap on this horribly broken map.

I still don't get it, who the *dance* does sideroutes on Forgotten? Map is horrendously broken, end of story.

More than anything, this thread was just a personal challenge to see if i could figure out relatively viable routes from each side for each team for each map that grab at or above 250. There are maps where this simply isn't possible or viable, like Nivosus, but I will be ignoring those in this thread. I am almost done with mirage, and I will be doing Core soon as well. I will probably make a final video of misc. routes from maps like stygian and frost just to show off specific routes over 250 on those maps.

Further, if they ever do decide to fix the shitty middle half pipe, routes will be worth doing on forgotten. As it stands, most of these routes are a lot of fun, but in any semi serious game, spamming front caps is still more effective simply because the terrain and stands on basically every map are so open and cater to that style of play. Stygian is a move in the right direction, where straight front caps simply arent possible and cappers must decide if they want to lose half their health ODing or spend an extra 5 seconds to do a more looping route. Hopefully we get more maps where the flag isnt so easy to grab at high speed from straight on.

I like faster return routes than grabbing at a fast speed. I do agree that forgotten's half pipe is terrible.
I look forward to watching your documented cap routes.:)

Sharp has a great route for alpha right on sleepwalker that he uploaded above. Spart and I also developed another 250ish route from the alpha left side earlier. I think you actually joined the server while we were figuring it out.

The map is seriously imbalanced right now with regard to the speed of routes and how easy it is to defend the flag. The alpha stand is much better guarded by the giant pillars and the hills surrounding the base are much shallower, making fast incoming routes more difficult. The beta flag on the other hand, can be grabbed from basically every angle and on both sides and behind the base there are giant steep hills that allow really fast approaches. It would be nice to see this addressed in some future iteration of the map. Chasing also kind of blows since there arent great starting hills out of the base and the central terrain is relatively flat as well. Otherwise, I like the map and the fog gives it a really nice feel.
