Anything you don't agree with? Don't see anything inherently wrong with it (getting in demo/spec support, wary about new game modes and deployables, explaining the game, etc). Only thing I skimped out on is sniper balance, which is an issue. And iOD, which I can't remember if I even mentioned. Too lazy to re-read my own post.

I have never walked into a ctf game only to find it out was a TDM in disguise......

Other than that, he's not wrong really.

I'm just surprised somebody took the time to write something involving Legions. Maybe some Ascend players will see it and give Legions a try, I know some already has.

Edit: Oh, it was Fixi. Well, that makes sense.

I wasn't really referring to CTF being TDM, but that's what a lot of C&H games essentially are in T:A. They just devolve into TDM or dueling, instead of working as a team and securing/defending points. It just lacks strategy and feels like a bunch of chickens walking around with their heads off (and armed with guns). The reason pub CTF is half-way decent in Legions right now is due to the small amount of players. If by some miracle we get a huge influx of players, I doubt it'll stay like that. Hell even now a few people choose to duel in CTF's, which is annoying.

Ah, yes. I remember playing C&H in T:A. A lot of people would head towards an objective but instead of maintaining their stride, they stop and start to duel someone.

I really hope this isn't going to happen to Legions. And by some miracle? :(, You're the Legions Enthusiast (or was), if you're not hopeful who will be?
but the chances of us getting a lot of players isn't that high, at least people will try the game but how many will stay, I wonder? Tribes Ascend is so much easier to get into especially if you have a good computer, a lot of people will just stay with Ascend because of how easy(the tutorials are to understand) it is.

I also hope Legions gets Arena, and not T:A arena. Tribes 2 Arena is much better.

By the way, good article. I hope lots of people read it.

Only criticism I have about the blog is that you sound dissapointed about how 'Vanilla' Legions is, and how T:A has things such as vehicles, turrets, deployables and what not. You then go on to say that T:A is beginning to embrace LT, or Light Tribes. From the way you described it this is T:A with everything BUT the vehicles, turrets, and deployables. The goal of this is to offer "a much more fast-paced style of gameplay by getting rid of everything that slowed it down. ..The focus is on the players and the flag.". Isn't this what Legions basically is? You even state earlier in the blog that Legions is "you the player, and a flag to capture." Other then that I have to agree with some of your views on the upcoming update. I've always enjoyed the simplicity legions has to offer while at the same time it requires you to grind through such an enormous skill-cap just to become adequate with the game play. I'm not sure how excited I'll be when I see things such as turrets implemented into the game. Good blog post nonetheless though.

I completely agree with Jicker, the game is pretty good the way it is, we don't need mines, turrets, generator, or inventory stations.

Just look at how successful Tribes is, that single day of esports with bunch of bads facing other bads and all that resulted was a bunch of over-inflated egos. The only thing those assets brought to the game were complaints. Instead of trying to follow in the footsteps of "Tribes", we should more-so ask what Tribes did do that made it bad, and what we can do to make Legions a much better game.

Will add more later.

I CANT WAIT FOR THE ENGIE CORE! I WANT TO BE A TURRET B*TCH... ER TURRET FARMER!!!! YUS

seriously, great post. I cant wait to see what Legions comes to be with assets, the game feels too fast imo. you never have any breathing room except on larger maps (if you constantly have to be at the ready, ala frost, you get put under pressure more, and can break easily. It happens all the time.) When it comes to the assets I am hoping that they add more depth, and just sorta act like an extension. Idk what it is, but I feel that assets in legions can be

I guess I didn't word things properly. I like how vanilla Legions is. The simplicity and accessibility of playing a game of CTF without having to deal with assets is the main draw for me. That's why I'm wary of introducing assets and C&H. I just don't know how popular they'll be, and fear it may have been time wasted on the dev's part (more-so the assets than game modes). Assets worked in previous Tribes games (and sorta in T:A) because there was actual indoor play. There was a reason to have indoor defenses, mainly to protect the generators that powered base turrets, stations and vehicle pad. Legions doesn't have any of that, since all of the flags are out in the open (ala LT or even base T:A). Maps like Gorge and Fallout were designed with assets in mind, but since there's no reason to actually go inside the base it seems a bit redundant.

I know StealthRG's new map will be introduced in the new patch (I even spotted Triad testing it last night), and it also has a rather complex base (judging by the screens at least). Unless there's some sort of objective (flag, generator, whatev) in there somewhere, I don't see a point in really creating a base like that other than to encourage turtling. If you guys did manage to make indoor play viable, *dancing* fantastic. I'd love to see it, because I loved that kind of gameplay in Tribes 1 (even if I did shift to LT). I'm in no way saying indoor play is bad, either. I just want it to make sense and worthwhile (i.e. don't pull a HiRez). One of my biggest complaints with Legions pubs is the complete lack of defense incentive. Everyone goes O while the flag carrier has no one to work with. If assets fix that, then great. It's one reason why T:A has shifted to LT; playing Tech is pointless, especially with bullshit like the gen autorepair timer.

Basically, I'm optimistic, cautious and skeptical all at the same time.

Having a good sniper doesn't seem that crucial in Legions when compared to Tribes, which is likely due to chasing being actually possible. This may be why I don’t see much of it.

Yeah yeah. I just don't seem to see it that much in PUGs I guess (usually chained out than sniped), and pubs have pretty shitty snipers (literally 3 sitting on top of FB bridge and all missing incoming cappers. lolwut). But I was already corrected on that.

One of my biggest complaints with Legions pubs is the complete lack of defense incentive..

Engy leveling should help this. Players are going to naturally want to invest time in the core so that they can deploy more powerful ones later on. Conquest's nature will also impact this.
