This is a wild speculation and a baseless charge!
speculation? baseless? all the private testers agreed that that map just was terrible to play. again, just cause a map works in pubs, doesnt mean it works in competition. and based on:
As for PUGs blah blah blah.... Who cares? How many people actually play? I dont play because I dont like having to sit on the sidelines so the "better" players can do their thing.
i doubt you actually participate in any form of competitive gameplay. (speculation but whateva )

New maps are great, especially gorge.
its great that you liked the maps. but the majority of the players who are actually vocal didnt. and thats who the devs are listening to, the vocal ones.

I think there was so much whining about the larger maps and folks actually had to "work" instead of lounge around.

THIS IS WILD SPECULATION AND A BASELESS CHARGE!!!!!!!!! it wasnt the players who sit on the flag stand or who just roam their own base who didnt like it. it was the cappers and chasers who were the most vocal. some of the best cappers and chasers complained about the maps cause they, the maps, just couldnt be played properly. example: forgotten, its a *Lovin'* super speed highway in the middle. who actually uses side routes on that map? like 5 players?

obviously, you've had bad experiences with pickups. im not gonna try and convince you to try another, thats up to you.

Obviously, you don't like PUGs because you find that most likely all the players in them know how to play the game the right way, or are just flat better than you. In pubs, there's lots of noobs to trash. I would suggest playing more pickups, learning about the game more, and actually listening to advice from players who know what they're doing. Pickups at this time in legions are the best games that happen, hands down. If you think you're good at the game and have only played pubs.....God help you.

Those new maps may have been playable if the devs actually kept their promise and slowed down gameplay by adding stuff they announced.

Just a quick overview about what 10 months ago was announced:
Custom Loadouts:

  • didn't happen
New Weapons and Hand Grenades:

  • 2 useless weapons (SkyBolt/Orange thingy)
  • 1 decent but similar to cg weapon (Plasmarifle)
  • the most annoying weapon, that 75% of the players and 99% of the decent players approve as skillless splashweapon (Mortar)
  • boost/frag nades
Overdrive Cores

  • didn't happen
Base Assets and Deployables

  • didn't happen
Client-Side Modding

  • did happen
Player-Hosted Servers

  • did kinda happen (beta testing for a "in beta-phase" game)
More Maps and Gametypes

  • Gorge (very unpopular)
  • Sleepwalker (very unpopular due to imo poor map design)
  • Stygian (unpopular map due to imo too high skiing ability requirements)
  • Fallout (decent map with imo slight weaknesses in base design)
  • Elegiac (50%popular 50% unpopular with imo a *chocolate cookies* base design and very repetitive terrain)
  • Tdm (accomplished)
  • Rabbit (not fully accomplished)
  • Duel (not needed but accomplished)
  • Blade Run/Mirage/Forgotton were brought back but were forgotten again

Cores are happening. That's all I really know or am comfortable saying.

As for the map situation, it's likely a mixture of poor map design and not wanting to learn new stuff. Look at older games that are still played today, like Tribes 1. People play the same 5 or so maps over and over because they know the maps by heart and don't feel like learning new routes/tactics. Even when new maps are made and are actually quite decent, people ignore them and continue the DX/SH/HB rotation. Until a miracle happens and we get a huge surge of players, I highly doubt any new map created will become 'the next Frostbite'. The majority love FB because they've been playing it for years. That's not something you can really get rid of through development.
