Edit: the only rule I have about sex is make sure you love that person before you do? I guess...
thats a good rule to have! don't guess..it's either a rule you want to have for yourself or not...you gotta be sure!...i've thought about it that way and it's not steered me wrong, so imo its a good rule...despite people ignoring it and advising you to bring condoms to parties anyway, as if you'll meet a girl and have sex that night (i can tell you, the relationship probably won't end well, seeing as how again, imo, you can't end up loving someone's personality AND getting it in return after an hour or so of knowing someone)....im not advising against using condoms of course, but I'm agreeing and making sure that you know you gotta be confident in your beliefs about it, or you may get screwed over literally and emotionally

You've got to be *dancing* kidding me ^
No no no. Just use a plastic bag tied up with a rubber band if you're that broke.
But seriously, Time Management is probably the biggest thing you can learn from University (because I'm assuming you go to University not a college) btw idk what Guelph is so...
But like people said, if you don't study for some classes you're absolutely *danced*. If you have a bad prof, you're also *danced*, which means you have to put in the extra hours of consulting your textbook just to make that B-A grade. But also this is very dependent on what courses you are taking. Both of my brothers are in college and what they tell me is that make sure you follow a schedule.
Also, like some dude mentioned, 3 options:
1.Party and fail
2.No life and get As on every course
3.Or be somewhere in between.

Tbh, idk if you have a scholarship or not, but you must be a complete and utter retard to piss away your parents money just by partying and failing. So either 1 or 2. Preferabbly 2. But not to the extreme if you catch my drift.

or you may get screwed over literally and emotionally
How many STIs/STDs are floating out there at this very point in time do you reckon?

The I guess part was "I think that's the only rule." Not being unsure about my one rule. Though it seems a lot of the guys are pushing my towards f**king hoes at partys.

I'll probably just study quietly, and do my best to get by without trying too hard. A problem I'm having is I feel like I won't have time for my high school friends. And their like the most treasured people I have.

I can only say one thing to that. Thats life bro. Just because you can't spend as much time doesn't mean your friendship will diminish. Cherish the time you can spend with them and if you can try to get more time to hang out with them. But never forget you need to also make new friends. And if you eventually fall out of contact it's ok. As long as you value the time you did spend with them it's ok.

TL;dr make new friends, spend time with old friends, value time spent with old friends, if possible introduce old and new friends, If you fall out of contact it's ok

That made me depressed. But I guess that's true...

If you can introduce new friends to old friends it isn't depressing. But otherwise it's the way life works as I said before life is full of surprises I went from a small town in Florida to the biggest city in turkey on the other side of the world. I haven't talked to my friends from back home for a long time. You never lose a friend because you go somewhere else (unless you *dance* it up and act like a fag). You will just have more catching up to do that's all. I assure you where old friends are lost new friends are made. I live in a joint building composed of two apartment buildings with about 90 - 100 more people. I can easily say I get along very well with all of them.

Don't listen to this guy. Keep in touch with your high school friends. Make time for them, the last thing you wanna do is drift away from who you've grown up with.

HEY HEY HEY, I never said cut them off. Of course you need to make time for them but eventually life is going to take you other places, always keep in touch. I but i did miss word something when i said old friends are lost i mean as in when you end up not being able to stay in touch with them you will have new friends. Never cut off your friends but don't let old friends get in the way of making new friends if you are far away from them.

-take notes by hand whenever possible, using as much brevity as you need to keep up with the teacher's lecturing speed but leaving space after topics you skimp on so you can elaborate after class. physically writing down the notes is one of the best mnemonic devices you'll ever get.
-go to class. the only exception would be whatever your college calls their focus groups, the Q&A sessions lead by TA's.
-if you have spare time your freshman year, fill it with something. find a work study job, take another class, join an interest group, etc
-meet payment deadlines or you will be screwed up the butt by the bursar.
-if you live with an RA, don't come home drunk.

One or both of those last two were gleaned from personal experience.

If you have bad hand writing but a little notebook and write notes that way. Never, never, never, cram or you will just be a tired, retarded mess in the morning. Also, don't worry about time, you'll have plenty, just do all your work, study, and then do whatever you want. You don't need to study 5 hours a day

What's an RA?

Idk what you mean by make payments on time, me and my friend are probably going to rent an apartment after this year. So maybe that would apply to that...?
And I'm not cutting off my friends ever.

One advice pops to my mind, while this one doesn't have anything to do with studying it'll help you keep going:
Get yourself a sport hobby you do on regular basis, it'll make you feel A LOT more energic than just sitting on your bum all day (even after lectures). I'm not talking about 2 hour daily weight lifting or jogging, even 15 minutes per day will do wonders on your stamina.
I've been doing push ups for a year now, I started off at 10-15 in a day and now I'm at 50-60 push ups per day and I'm happy with results. Granted, I never considered it as body building or such, I merely wanted to get in better shape so I wouldn't always run out of breath when I walk up a flight of stairs... speaking of which, make sure you have atleast little variety on your workout, you'll want both strength and endurance and not just one. Walking 30 mins per day & taking stairs instead of elevator sounds boring but it's adequate to keep up average person's endurance, you won't be running a marathon but you won't get winded after running a minute :p

I guess there's a reason why you are called 'Romance' ;)

If you have bad hand writing buy a little notebook

no one else needs to read your handwriting. when you type out your notes you A) look like a douchebag B) have a shapeless blob of words instead of a nice hand-drawn t-chart or outline and C) will have a fraction of the recall you would have if you took the time to write it out by hand.

how are you paying for tuition, room and board? that's what i meant by payments.

they pick the hot ones for RA's because freshmen are easier to keep under control when they're smitten by the person enforcing the rules ^_^

Well we are supposed to bring laptops everyday in my program.

If you write your notes out by hand, take time later to clean them up. It really helps, but it might be hard to find some free time. If you ever find some time where you just have nothing to do make yourself busy with your work.

Did your college actually say that? It's quite the opposite in most US schools - too many students going on facebook, etc during class. But I stand by my advice - unless everyone else in the class seems to be be typing their notes (we don't want you to come across as old-fashioned) you should take the time to write them out manually. it helps you remember stuff goodly :)
