As it is now, there's little encouragement to snipe. There's no improved zoom, the damage output per shot is ~1 rocket (no instant kill with one shot), the hit line is very narrow, and the hit window is far shorter than the amount of time the sprite lasts, and there's no more damaging cloud should the beam hit a wall. Increasing the damage would certainly be nice (as there are no more clouds). Bringing back the old sniping zoom would certainly make me happy with or without any other changes. If there aren't going to be any damage increases, then perhaps bring back the damage cloud.
It used to. Real lasers don't have SD, but you can't lift a 2-ton Legionnaire off the ground with magical energy, so that's why the old LR had SD. This is Legions.
I agree with you completely on the SD idea.Yeah right.![]()
Skypredator, you do)n't get it do you? Disci is one of the most sarcastic motherlovers on these forums. Most things he says should be taken with a grain of salt.
Sniper loadout (the OR specialist class, of course) is rather powerful. However, with the energy drop that happens every time you fire, you have to be damn good to duel with it. If somebody comes in with rockets and closes with a sniper of my level, which is a little below that of skypredator's and further below Lanthus and company, then I can chain it, run, and hope I get lucky. It depends on the skill of the dueler, as well, I can laser duel with some people and come out on top, but once somebody fires an LR, they don't run very far. The best way to kill a sniper is to get close in. Now with Lanthus et al, that's a feat, but if you catch them while they aren't looking at you, wait until they shoot and then pull their pants down with a rocket.
). He told me to kill him with a LR; he wouldn't shoot back. ALl he did was jump back and forth. I never hit him. Ever. However, I LR dueled Dacil a few weeks ago and "completely obliterated her" (In the words of one of the players spectating). This isn't to say that Dacil is incompetent and that I'm t0t4lly pr0. My point is that, coincidentally, I was in a good mood that day, so I was able to focus more on playing and having a good time than how I felt.
. This is something I wouldn't have ever done if I were on a team. All in all, one's play-style and skill set is dynamic, and based upon the player's psychographics. There is something called an ENTER key, please use it. Big walls of text just makes me go "tl;dr".[...]

Laser rifle is very, VERY easy to use; even with 200+ ping.
Hell yes, sniping with 200ping is possible. You'll be suprised by how many times I snipe (and hit) an opponent (no-osnipe).
People who have not experienced playing Legions: Overdrive/FE:L for 2 years with 200 ping, please don't open your mouth before you know what its like...
The LR is fine as it is now, the whole game is all skill-based. No-one can complain about something being overpowered because some players use the full potential of the LR. It goes the same for the rocket-launcher. 2 MA hits of a rocket will kill an outrider or raider. But no-one complains.
Every weapon has its pros and cons. LR just happens to consume some energy when fired. Also it's reload rate is fairly slow, during that reloading time, you would have your energy nearly back to full.
It's the player's choice in the end, shoot while stationary - easier shots, faster energy refill. Chasing with the sniper loadout means making sacrifices like taking another shot so you can keep up with the capper.
(If this post sounded a-bit harsh or rant-ish, sorry about that)
