Not believing into what you want is exactly what this discovery is about. A theory naturally breaks down at one point. No single theory is all inclusive, except the ultimate goal of physics, the GUT. The reason why everyone is on the rooftop about the possible discovery of the Higgs Boson is because it means that our theory of the standard model is correct. To really appreciate this, you have to view this in the context of other theories like quantum electrodynamics and the GRT, two more theories for wich not only no contradiction exists but also of which all their predictions came true. It means we've become damn good at making theories about how our world works.

The higgs boson is an until recently theoretical particle that was believed to endow other particles with mass. Though predicted long ago, it has only recently been confirmed to exist after years of searching. The relevance here is that it helps validate the standard model of physics we have now, suggesting very strongly that we are on the right track.
