Help with my IPhone 3g and updating it to latest firmware

Hi,
I've encountered a problem with my IPhone 3g while attempting to update the firmware. Actually this IPhone is my brothers, and he bought it in Canadia, and gave it to me, and now I'm in Asia. So the problem is:Iphone not updating.png

Is there anyway to get around this other than to get the Sim Card he bought it and unlocked it with? Because I think he might not have it, and Canada is a *dancing* long way away from SG.

Help would be greatly appreciated, and I'm not very tech savvy.

I think you need to unlock your sim card or something, but you have to pay for it
sometimes phones from another countries gets locked to only work within the origin country

Seems like the SIM card is from a different Carrier. Most likely, your brother bought the SIM card on a Canadian Cell Phone Service. Since you're in Aisa, it will not work and have to buy a new SIM card from an Aisian Cell Phone Service that supports the iPhone.

I think

Having an iPhone myself, my parents stuck me with Tmobile(Oh the nice customer service).

Apparently, if you update your iPhone to the latest software for it, it will lock itself since it will detect you aren't using Att. I haven't bothered googling how to counter that because I'm too lazy.

which is why some people haven't updated their iphones.

You really got yourself screwed

There are some websites were you buy codes to unlock your phone to any carrier you want, not sure if there is one for the iPhone but you still should give it a try.

A friend of mine paid some asian dude to jailbreak his iPhone to make it work with TMobile. It was illegal at first, but now that AT&T owns TMobile, it's perfectly legal for him to use that carrier with his iPhone. :)
