I think anyone whose been around for half as long as I’ve been knows I’m a zealot when it comes to certain discussions, but I’m breaking my “no religion or politics in the pub” rule to share this.

On behalf of the 7 billion people on earth and estimated 3 billion to come before we naturally cap out, can I say thank you to America for not *dancing* it up again.

It's terrifying that in this century every four years the people of the world watch America choose between a level headed "Left" government that's actually further to the right than most other developed countries right wing parties, and a bunch of religious nutjobs with the ability to bring about Armageddon.

That aside, I have to share this pearler:

She’s not alone, a whole bunch of what passes for your republican party these days are echoing similar sentiments.

A few fun facts:

Australia doesn’t have a president, we have a Prime Minister, and she is a 51 year old unmarried and childless woman, is also an atheist, who backflips with the best of them. She has red hair and her partner is a hairdresser, with an accent so broad that she was once asked on a visit to the US if people in Australia spoke English.

Our opposition leader, an ex-priest, understands abortion and believes it should be legal (if not rare), is anti-gun, stands for universal healthcare, is anti-death penalty, and his sister who also an elected member of parliament is an openly gay lesbian – He’s still against gay marriage, but so is our Prime Minister. Also a misogynist and speedos fan.

Overall we’re a country with openly gay politicians, we love socialist programs, we teach evolution in schools, taxes are everywhere on everything, the balance of power in our government is held by a group of third party greenies/independents, and voting is compulsory so you get fined if you don’t show up to tick a box or draw a dick on your ballot.

So once again, those of you who can vote and those of you who will vote, thanks and please don’t *dance* it up next time - and please don't tell any of your friends or relatives who plan to move here that our right is left of Obama, gonna tax the kents :D

There's a rumor that Hilary Clinton stepped down to Secretary back in 2008 because she's gearing up for another campaign in 2016 when she's had plenty of rest, she's in the best position since she knows diplomacy.

"If Hillary Clinton ran for president again, she would probably be the best-prepared candidate in American history: one who’s lived in the White House, served in the United States Senate, a woman who knows virtually every head of state in the world and also has a strong opinion about the merits of the Peruvian minister of development and social inclusion."

I guess you can rest easy for another 4 or 8 years.

Edit: Jordahan liked my post! Time to pop some bottles!

Definitely a fan of that happening, Hilary is solid and not a Muppet - also as first female president nominee and not being a retard, she pretty much wins the majority of the womans vote by default.

Landslide.

My favourite part is that Australia's "president" is an athiest and a woman. That's about as far from American political palatability as you can get.

*Edit* Oh darn, read the rest of your post to see that you'd already spoiled the surprise. Also, Heartsong and I were discussing Hilary's potential run for presidency when I mentioned that she can easily win through violence. If she were to slug the (invariably) male republican candidate and knock him down, he'd immediately lose half his base. And everyone would laugh.

*dance* YEAH! AUSTRALIA FTW! JULIA GILLARD IS A BOGAN! WE CONSIDER OUSELVES MULTICULTURAL, YET ACCEPT LESS REFUGEES THAN CANADA, DESPITE THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A LARGER LANDMASS. OUR GOVERNMENT SPENDS BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PROVIDE ULTRA-FAST BROADBAND TO ABORIGINIES IN THE DESERT. NO OFFENSE TO THE ABO'S- BUT THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE COMPUTERS! WE SHOULD DEFINATELY HAVE SPENT BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON THIS, NOT SOMETHING INSIGNIFICANT SUCH AS HEALTH CARE, CHEAPER GREEN ENERGY, OR FIXED MELBOURNES OVERPOPULATED AND CONGESTED ROADS. SMART THINKING GILLARD! *dance* YEAH!

(but seriously GILLARD is a dirty wranga, I say we *dance* *chocolate cookies* up...)
(nothing against ultra-fast Internet, although we probably don't need it in the desert for the time being...)

Love ya Rougey :)

Also a lot less potable drinking water, I mean TBH we can take more, but landmass does not equal the ability to support a population.

MELBOURNES OVERPOPULATED AND CONGESTED ROADS.

HAhahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH

Oh god, seriously?

Melbourne's Roads... overpopulated? Congested? In comparison to what, Traffic in the Yarra Valley?

Oh you Victorians are SOOOOOOOOOOO cute!

To be fair your trams make driving a nightmare, but even if your traffic held a *dancing* candle to Sydney, at least an accident doesn't completely *dance* up traffic for the entire network; you get an accident on an arterial bridge or road in Sydney and BOOM! Instant peek hour for everyone in a 10km radius. And if the accident is in peek hour you can kiss the next two to three hours goodbye, because the traffic can clog up to the size of some European countries.

You know that a lot of what you were taught about the Second World War in high school was created during the cold war, basically you got fed propaganda to downplay the role of Russia in the second world war, and by extension the rest of the Allied forces. It wasn't America that won the war, granted once the US industrial base grinded into gear the game was well and truly over (see the A-bomb), but in reality Russia could have beaten Nazi Germany on its own, they just would have had to kill another 20 million or so of their own citizens in the process. Essentially Germany lost the war when Hitler decided to break the truce with Russia, and the final days of the war in Europe where a race to get to Berlin first, which Russia won.

In terms of the Pacific which I assume you are referring to, remember that the first US forays into the pacific where an unmitigated disaster. Australia/NZ where holding off the Nips (barely) in PNG with chocos, conscript militia considered "chocolate soldiers" because they would melt in actual combat - yet they held against veteran Japanese soldiers in appalling conditions. At the time our best soldiers, volunteer trained and veteran troops, where off in Northern Africa making Rommel eat humble pie. Without US contribution I don't doubt the Japs would have eventually landed on Australian shores, but that fight would have been... interesting. Australia is probably the worst country to invade on Earth, water is scarce, the terrain is awful, bushfires are common and that's before you consider the wonderful wildlife - military experts consider an invasion of Australia to be Russia in winter on steroids, it's a guerrilla fighter’s wet dream. Would have been a hell of a fight, but thankfully we'll never know the answer - odds are once the fighting in Europe was over, Russia would turned its eyes towards Asia.

In all honestly, the greatest thing the US did in the second world war was not letting Russia get a hold of as much land and Nazi Scientists as they potentially could have - in essence if you didn't jump into the second world war you would have lost the cold war and possibly the space race.

I'd really suggest reading up some more on WW2, in particular the eastern front. Yes, D-Day was the greatest invasion in the history of mankind and the US contribution was integral if not essential to its success, not to mention keeping the overall body count for the war lower that it could have been, but the fighting between Russia and Germany was where the war was won and lost.

Also if you don't know who Rommel is, look him up - he is one of the greatest and most respected generals of all time - had Hitler put him in control of the war effort Germany would have won assuming Rommel didn't succeed in assassinating him and leading a military coup against the Nazi Party and SS, effectively ending the war.

Also an American calling an Australian a prude over guns is like an Amish person calling an university educated lesbian primitive for running barefoot on weekends.
