Rougey
Most Honoured Aussie
I think anyone whose been around for half as long as I’ve been knows I’m a zealot when it comes to certain discussions, but I’m breaking my “no religion or politics in the pub” rule to share this.
On behalf of the 7 billion people on earth and estimated 3 billion to come before we naturally cap out, can I say thank you to America for not *dancing* it up again.
It's terrifying that in this century every four years the people of the world watch America choose between a level headed "Left" government that's actually further to the right than most other developed countries right wing parties, and a bunch of religious nutjobs with the ability to bring about Armageddon.
That aside, I have to share this pearler:
She’s not alone, a whole bunch of what passes for your republican party these days are echoing similar sentiments.
A few fun facts:
Australia doesn’t have a president, we have a Prime Minister, and she is a 51 year old unmarried and childless woman, is also an atheist, who backflips with the best of them. She has red hair and her partner is a hairdresser, with an accent so broad that she was once asked on a visit to the US if people in Australia spoke English.
Our opposition leader, an ex-priest, understands abortion and believes it should be legal (if not rare), is anti-gun, stands for universal healthcare, is anti-death penalty, and his sister who also an elected member of parliament is an openly gay lesbian – He’s still against gay marriage, but so is our Prime Minister. Also a misogynist and speedos fan.
Overall we’re a country with openly gay politicians, we love socialist programs, we teach evolution in schools, taxes are everywhere on everything, the balance of power in our government is held by a group of third party greenies/independents, and voting is compulsory so you get fined if you don’t show up to tick a box or draw a dick on your ballot.
So once again, those of you who can vote and those of you who will vote, thanks and please don’t *dance* it up next time - and please don't tell any of your friends or relatives who plan to move here that our right is left of Obama, gonna tax the kents
