Computer RAM help

Hey guys, I have a g73jh Asus gaming laptop that comes with 6 gigs of RAM. It works really well, but it's just odd when I see in task manager that a quarter of my ram is being used when literally the only thing running is task manager. I even end some of the major tasks that are taking up RAM and the usage may go down by a percent. Here are some screenshots

dont see what the problem is, your RAM is not exactly crazy high

might not be anything visible running to you but you can clearly see all those background processes which all seem to be legit things like anti virus, volume control, itunes helper, graphics control center, mouse control, the main one (windows explorer) is big because windows is a hefty OS

with 6GB of RAM I don't think you will ever need to worry about RAM

Your computer does not use all the RAM that it has ;) You'll find when doing heavy duty tasks, like encoding videos, RAM usage will go up. Windows also uses the page files as well to help RAM (Basically the windows version of the linux swap partition)
 
a lot of laptops come with a lot of bloatware... just stuff that the company puts on initially when you first start your computer. dell and hp is really good at that. asus not as much, but still does.
 
Registry errors can sometimes cause performance problems. Get a registry cleaner and scan it. CCleaner is pretty good for that. A few antivirus/firewall programs have a Game Mode option that enables a little better performance. AVG has a game mode option. I'm not sure if yours does or not.

This may also help. Turns off un-needed applications that run in your system tray/ are hidden.

I stopped reading at this:

Disable the User account control (UAC) Feature in Windows 7
      • From the Control Panel open the ” User Accounts and Family Safety ” > User Account.
      • Click the User Account Control settings link.
      • Now just Drag the Slider towards “Never Notify”.
      • Click “OK” and Reboot your system.
The User account control (UAC) feature in Windows 7 is very annoying though it says it can protect your computer from harmful virus activity etc. But if you are a daily user of your computer this windows 7 feature will be a total nuisance to you.

Do you realize what it is? It's that box that pops up when you open an exe, asking if you want to open it or not. They say it is to prevent from viruses but if you're not stupid and download from untrusted and sketchy sites, and have a well working anti-virus program, you're fine. Protecting you from malware and adware is what Firewalls and Anti-Virus programs are for. Windows does a below average job at defending your computer.

Er, yes? Have you lost complete faith in microsoft? They're not trying to get your computer infected y'know. If there's anything I do trust from microsoft, its the UAC. UAC helps control stuff in the background as well, not just to prevent virus. For example, if Java wants to update itself.

In relation to that article, UAC really doesn't make your system run worse, and apart from apparently being 'annoying', it just stays in the background.

Yeah they do, stuff like the "Razer Mamba Configuration Utility" - there's also a button on the process page to show system processes, and you'll see alot of stuff there.

Not quite. Avast! keeps constant updates of viruses detected and ended up discovering that a minority of viruses come from such things. The majority are from "trustworthy" sites.

As for the rest of this thread.. There are just a ton of background programs that suck RAM.
 
if you press the resource monitor button you see in the performance tab it launches another application that shows you more detailed information on how much is being used and by what
 
Thanks disaster. Fireblasto, I know applications are running; my point was that after i ended a 40k process (should be like 5% of RAM) it only went down by a percent. It was odd to me that so few programs were taking up so much RAM, i know programs run in the background
