Important update - If you have anything other then General in the terraform menu when you click Reload .ter, it'll regernate a whole new terrain sinc it applies any other modificaiton you have there (like fractal terrain). So, make sure just General if present before pressing Reload .ter. Smoothing is also apparently safe to use.
