Building a computer, need some help

I finally decided to build a new computer. Everything in my old build is quite sub par except for a 305W power supply( pretty good quality) and a dvd reader+burner( lite on). I also have some hi end speakers that I will use on it instead of some desktop speakers. I got a Storm Enforcer case for about 50$ from one of my friends that works at a local computer shop. ( but he said no more discounts after that :(). My budget is about 700 (+/- $50) but I need a monitor and a keyboard. I really have no clue what is the most bang for the buck right now, I'm really clueless on graphics cards.

I'm thinking a:
amd phenom II the quad core, or maybe splurge and go to an i5
ATX asus motherboard( just came out with some new ones that have 3 internal usb 3.0 headers for about $100
Some cheapo monitor and keyboard( granted i don't want them to break in a month)

All help will be well appreciated and will post pics of case when i set it up today.( bought a few extra 120s and a fan controller).

Budget sounds good; I'm thinking we might need to find you something a bit beefier than that 305 psu, but with that said, we should find something within your budget. At work right now, but during slower periods I'll take a look at different builds.

As for your case, that's a decent case at a nice price! Also the extra 120s and a fan controller are a nice touch.

Here's a review of the case if you're interested.

an i5 will be too expensive with your budget, when you are getting a monitor as well. you might also want to skip out on a more expensive motherboard and go for a cheaper gigabyte model, leaving you more money to spend on the graphics card or processor. (you always have the option of spending money on these later and getting a better pc over time)

you could always buy the motherboard and processor as a combo, that way you will know they work together, and are often cheaper too.
there are also some places that do bundles including a graphics card, but i doubt they will give you what you want (they like to bundle the better graphics cards with i7's, even when an i5 will suffice)

power supply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028 Corsair 600w (allows for higher end graphics cards) 70$

processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115073
intel 2500 $210

Motherboard - INTEL http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128487 99$
(this won't support dual graphics cards to the point of it being worth it.)
AMD - i'm not too sure about these, better off asking someone who is an AMD user. i THINK any AM3+ slot motherboard will do.

RAM - 4GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148346 (budget) 23$

Graphics card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121418 190$ (yes i know it is out of stock, but it is a good card. get a sapphire 6870 if this isnt in stock by the time you buy parts)
NVidia card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121466 195$ (similar performance, again, good card)

Hard drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148697 55$ 1TB drive, although it doesn't really matter what make it is as long as you don't spend too little.

CD drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151233 17$ doesn't really matter how much you spend in the $10-$20 range, you probably won't use it much anyway.

total: ~670$ without a monitor.

keyboard and mouse isnt too much to spend on, but you might want to spend a bit more money, but you can always get a Black AMD phenom 2 X4 and save $50, but they will not give the same performance as an i5. e.g. the i5 can hold it's own easily, and often beat a high end phenom 2 X6.

you forgot to reasearch the OS to :p

id say wait till you can buy abit more...or buy them in sections like mobo, processor, HD one week, nother week RAM OS keyboard and mouse, you dont necessarily need to get a GFX card straight of...i ran legions with 48fps max with my onboard gfx for months radeon HD4000 and newer MOBOs have newer than that built in

DAMN THAT MICROSOFT!

either way, get win 7 64 bit on a student licence, it'll cost you like $50, possibly less.

and integrated doesn't work on some motherboards, specifically the intel p67 line, which i suggested... @_@

The os is gonna be windows 7 and I can get that through school for about $40 or so. I really would like to have some internal usb 3.0 connectors

most socket 1155 (sandy bridge i3/i5/i7 motherboards have them.

it will also tell you on the motherboard specifications.

Here you go, little buddy!

MSI 890GX (has USB3.0 headers, woo!)
phenom2 x6 1090t
kingston 4gb ram
1.5 tb hdd
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Combo...o.719456&cm_sp=DIY_PC_Combos-_-719456-_-Combo
$366.99

rosewill 630w psu $59.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182200

hanns g hz201dpb 20" $89.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254055

Radeon 6770 $129.99 with $30 MIR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103189

-----------------------
$646.96

Pretty decent system, I didn't include a keyboard (figured that's more of a subjective purchase, but you can find cheap ones for $15). Not familiar with the Rosewill brand, but the psu seemed to have decent reviews and the price was right.

MSI's not ASUS, but still a solid brand (despite what newbs like RainPilot might tell you), and it's got USB 3.0 headers, figured you'd like that. Monitor's not the largest, but the price was nice and gaming should be decent playing at its native resolution with the above specs.

I checked the your link and I did not see it on there

under "details" it has two usb 3.0 ports on the back.

seymour's motherboard combo is a good choice, the x6 is pretty much the i5 of the amd line, and is a good processor. you have good ram and a nice hard drive too :)

i'm not too sure about the power supply, reviews don't seem too fantastic with it,
i'd be more comfortable with spending a little more and getting a quieter and better quality make.

you could also spend a little more on the graphics card, and get a radeon 6870, getting the total to about $700

Exactly the enforcer case has 2 usb 3.0 ports on the front of the case and I would prefer not to do a pass though with the cables to be able to use them

Good luck finding a motherboard that has two usb 3 ports on front, most only have 1 usb 3 internal front panel connector last time I had a look around.
