A list of things you learned about llamaing

I'm guilty of the llama but only in certain situations.

When im at the enemy teams base causing trouble and they have our flag and our cappers are not heading for the flag i'll grab it go as far as i can and throw it out just to buy my team sometime and hopefully stop the other team from capping.
= E-garb.

In pubs, I'll purposefully llama the flag and attempt to get home with it, assuming I haven't seen any dedicated cappers on my team running anything other than front routes. I so dig capping the flag after llamaing it. It's like a melee attack in Quake: the ultimate humiliation. =)

A couple things in regards to Dacil:

it's called taking the initiative to get into PUGs and talk to people who know how to cap...effort! i know! crazy!
1) Terminology is not commonly known- There isn't a magical pill, that when swallowed, ingrains all legions technique and terminology in the brain, the two are learned through in-game and out-of-game experiences. That means the existence of Pugs is not known by everybody.

Also, Pugs are NOT a good source of learning for newer players. A new player if picked (what are the chances of new players frequently being picked in Pugs?) will most likely endure the hardest gaming experience of their life. Being put up against players who have played the game for countless months, they will probably just be target practice for the entire map, learning nothing.

i've been in, where there was a llamaer and they were not called out on it (edit), so if they dont care to find out then llama = how to not learn b/c if they keep doing it, they're clearly not learning....that is all

2) Never yell at new players. As Shade said, when a new player joins a game they do not know what is right or wrong, hence being NEW PLAYERS, they just do what they think is fun, since thats the reason we play video games right? To have fun. What authority do you have to mandate what they're allowed to do?

Put yourself in their shoes, imagine you've been playing for a week now and your skiing is getting better, not like anything you've seen the pros do, but better. You get to the flag-stand grab the flag and start heading back home, feeling accomplished in the sense that you're finally contributing to your team. However, you look down and see in chat "Y WOULD U LLAMA THE FLAG?!?! WTF NOOB U SUCK." Not only does this make you feel terrible, it makes you not want to play the game filled with these jerk-offs.

So no, don't yell at new players for not knowing what to do, instead try helping them, rather than complaining on the forums and being a sarcastic nitwit. Crazy right?!

Also if the D sucks so bad that I can actually walk up to the flag and then skate to my flagstand then Why the hell not?

No offence, but I read your points and they were kind of selfish and not thought out. For example, some people haven't played a multiplayer online game to an extent where they've discovered about PuGs. I didn't know about PuG's until someone invited me to join one.

It's already been said, but it's worth repeating that llamaing is not categorically bad. It is an action just like any other in the game. You could shoot a rocket and it might hit an enemy or you might MA a friendly capper who is flying toward your stand to make the winning cap, but both of these things started with simply shooting a rocket. Llamas function in much the same way. Your llama could save a cap, it could be extremely well timed and you catch the defense with their pants down, or you could be mucking up your teammate's route.
Nothing so general is cut and dry.

I remember when I was just a pub-scrub and then Filter invited me to the newblood pickups and I didn't want to download ventrilo so I didn't hear what they were saying. Of course the whole time I was there I was O-Sniping like it was a real game. Until I got my ventrilo setup and realized what an idiot I was for O-sniping. Thanks Filter :)

Filt3r's Newblood Pickups were a great idea. It'd be great if someone could start those up again, but I think most people are probably too busy (Filt3r included) to take on something like that with such a small number of Newbloods around.

If only you could stop O-sniping during pugs...
