Don't forget those are Australian prices, so who knows what kinda markup there is for the keyboard/mouse compared to our pricing.

As for the specs, they look good!

As per OANDA, 1 USD = 1.02 AUD.

Honestly, if you are willing to spend >$2000 on a computer there are maybe somethings you could improve in your build.

Firstly, get a SSD for caching or booting.

Secondly, if you are building this rig just for gaming, drop the i7 and opt for a i5-3570K. If not, get the 3770K instead of the 3770!

Finally, drop the GTX 580 and go for a GTX 670. 670 sounds really promising, and with that budget you could easily fit a 670 instead of a 580.

Here is a build I designed in 5 minutes and it gives you around $800 to spend on accessories such as monitor(s)/mouse/keyboard/case etc...

Keep in mind that I've included a water cooler, just for the heck of it. You really dont need one, but its better than a standard air cooler, imo.

This and you're spending way too much on a *dancing* case man. Spend like <$100 then take the extra money and get an SSD.

Yar, not sure if you guys are quite understanding the pricing thing. Sure 1usd = 1.02aud, but there's a huge pricing markup on certain PC components in Australia. For example, that 670 costs between $580-620 AUD, so a GTX580 for $449 is probably quite worth it.

Anyhow, if I have some free time today I'll take a look at a few Australian websites to see what I can round up. Though for the most part, your build looks quite solid. Oh, and is there a specific Australian web e-tailer that you order from? Or is it mostly B&M stores that you purchase from?

Edit: Didn't have a chance to look, but is that PCpartpicker site for Australian pricing?

A good one that is in my area is PCIDY (for parts). If you find any other good retailers around Melbourne (where I live) or online that would be great. Thanks for your help Seymour! And you are most certainly spot on with your pricing theory!

Ah, I see what you meant. I'm sorry! Also, no PCpartpicker is all in USD. I was assuming that since 1USD is almost 1AUD, I thought just to give him the basic quota in USD.

Even looking after that website, Royalty, I still think you should get the GTX670. The cost for GTX670 is about $478, and you're getting the 580 for about $439.

You're probably right. I'll have a serious think about that.
Can you go into detail about how one would use an SSD as a boot drive? What would you use the HDD for?
What do you do with your desktop?

Thanks for your feedback!

ima build one this summer im buying a Cyborg R.A.T.9

used one, feels plasticky and generally cheap, especially for the price. I went into the store planning on getting a RAT 9 for £100, came out with a sidewinder x8 for £20 (although it was on "getting rid of stock" discount.)

the sidewinder is much better.

do you really need 16GB RAM, and do you really need a top of the range i7?
an i5 3570k should do you fine, and if you are just using this pc for games, then 16GB is stupid,
i have 8GB and never really go over 4GB in usage with any game (although RAM is cheap atm.....)
also, if you are going for the 580, why not spend a little more and get the new, GTX 670 or 680

(i.e. dump the i7, half the RAM, get an i5 and a GTX ASUS DCII TOP 680 - http://www.asus.com.au/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/GTX680DC2T2GD5/).

EDIT: it appears that in Australia, parts are actually incredibly expensive, with the 680 hitting $800 for the one i mentioned.
Go for a 670, specifically this - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1387&products_id=20213

However, This 580 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1170&products_id=16871
Is still a much better deal.

Too much on that keyboard & mouse & case

Get an SSD if you have that much money, or at least use a small (60GB) one for caching (look up intel SRT)

i'd say some things here are just excessive, and you should just lower the specs for them, and keep the cash for later.

Also, this might be useful for those who want to browse ozzie pc parts sites. - http://www.overclock.net/t/28861/opinion-where-to-purchase-pc-components-in-australia

Yar, looks like there's already been some good suggestions. As for the 670 vs 580, I'd definitely choose the 670 if prices are close together (670 is a beast). As for keyboard, cases and mice, my best recommendation is to go with whatever you're comfortable with. They're very subjective products. What might feel cheap and uncomfortable to one person, might feel like cake to another (I myself am a big fan of Sidewinder 'chunky' style mice).

As for setting up SSDs as boot drives, it's pretty simple. Here's a forum thread where they discuss a couple of methods (I'd just install Windows on the SSD and plug in the regular HDD after it's installed to avoid any confusion).
http://www.overclock.net/t/1212413/...rive-and-have-a-reg-hard-drive-for-more-space

One thing to keep in mind is that you don't need a super huge SSD, a 120GB (or even a 60GB) SSD would be fine. For storage capacity, that's where you'd use a normal HDD (with a capacity to fit your needs). And judging by pricing for SSDs on this PCDIY site, $130-150 for a 120GB SSD.
