I have never understood why there should be taunts in qc. I do use them just to taunt the taunters back when they get on my nerves, which does happen quite often.
I agree: the intelligent compromise here is to be able to selectively mute taunts without losing all the useful messages like [Take the flag from me!] (which most people seem to ignore, anyway, but that's a separate issue).
