laser rifle

This might be a little early for all this, but if the development for legions continues, I think the laser rifle would benefit from having the lag time from clicking to discharge being shortened or removed. The long purple beam is fine, though. The rest of us need to be able to find the snipers.

Yeah bringing back the charge sniper is a good idea- but it's also good to nerf it so we don't have those 1 hit ko's

I think it'd be better if rather than nerfing the sniper rifle, there should be two types of it. One type couldn't be 1 hit, but the wait time between shots would be decreased. The other type could be 1 hit, but the wait time between shots increased. Also possibly more energy taken away by the 1 hit type.

I'm against bringing it back. The new sniper rifle significantly reduced the number of o-snipers, who were a pain in the back.

true, but you know how to counter snipers? with a sniper XD
that and I'm good at sniping in CSS, but I never did it in legions b/c of the fire lag...I'd like to see it come back :'(

A one hit lr would be majorly op even with the waiting time. The old laser rifle was op enough. :[

The old sniper rifle had a beam that did damage over time. The current sniper rifle has a beam that is active for 3 ticks (approx 96ms) but will only do damage to you once. The old DoT sniper is never coming back, though we may test a charging mechanic (like Dystopia).

I wouldn't want a one-hit LR because, as said before, that would be a pain in the back. O-snipers are usually a pain, but they can be dealt with. Good O-snipers are more of a hassle because they usually do well in closer quarters. However, in CTF, most more advanced snipers hopefully (its been a while, so I might be wrong with this) realize that they are much more useful for defensive and flag recovery purposes.

If its charged, I would think that that would allow you to increase it slightly as it would discourage people from using it at short range... I'm not talking OHKO's here, just a little more damage than before.

Just a thought...

My vote would be for a charging sniper like the old one, but make it use ammo and not be DoT like the new one.
The main reason I'd be suggesting this is that the charging factor was what made this sniper different to the sniper's found in most games. This I feel gave the gun a much greater appeal.
Yes, I agree that it was somewhat overpowered, and Way too easy for offensive snipers to use, but that doesn't mean that the charging factor was to blame.

When I did the current sniper rifle we went over many different versions to figure out what felt nice while not overpowering the gun. A mandatory charging mechanic like the existing sniper left the gun underpowered. A charge mechanism like that in Dystopia (where the damage varies over the charge period, with the max power around the 70% mark) was not tried, which is why I said it's possible we'd visit that.

When making gameplay changes we try a whole load of things, and settle with the one that fits best. We were aware of the charge mechanism and how some people liked it, but when combined with the ammo + energy limitations the gun was useless, with any other combination it was overpowered.

Thanks for the clarification Mabeline, it should have occurred to me that such a combination would doubtless have been tested.

Either way, there will always be o-sniping...so here is the solution;
Have a sniper that makes a loud annoying sound when equipped. That way people won't use it as often. Hohoho!

like it would matter if the old sniper is back....instead of arguing about that and make such a fuss you should bring back the old classes....e.g grenade launcher specialist and all the other beta classes

If classes were removed it was because they were imbalanced. Pending a rebalance of the old weapons we are certainly not bringing back GLS.

GLS is indeed to OP , there is no escape if you encouter the nade specialist. Glad to hear that it is not coming back :)

I like the idea of having a charged hard hitting sniper like the old one and a faster sniper like the new one has 2 different guns.

I loved the old sniper from when legions first opened up. It gave the legion sniper a very unique feel to it. The charge was very fun while it also made it really hard to fight close range or chase. I became a really good chase sniper because I had to charge while in air because it shut of your ski and worry about my energy at the same time while keeping up with people who can rocket jump. It hit hard but if you missed you felt it.

The new sniper was amazing when it came to defending a base. I just had to peg 5 people coming in and let teammates finish or I would finish while they where leaving with flag. If I missed... no problem I could shoot again before they could suck in the air they just lost while they saw the lazer come 3 inches from the very head they use and like so much. In close range combat sniping I loved getting an ma then finishing with a close range snipe, it was very satisfying..... kind of like spelling that big word without looking it up on google...

I never really had a problem with O snipers..... those of you that know me probably know why...

yeah, I used to counter snipe, but with me, the duels would take forever, or not very long before I was killed.
