Ballistic sniper rifle / Combat rifle

If you are wondering where did I get my idea from this time then it's a compromise between Global Agenda's ballistic sniper rifle and CoD:WaW bolt rifles.

Ballistic Rifle: explanation (I'm bad with names)
Imagine a chaingun that has the fire rate of a rocket launcher, but causes the damage of about 30% Raider's HP per hit and causes an impact of an RL MA. 15 bullets ammo for non-specialist class. Each shot can be additionally charged, just like the old sniper rifle. Charging a shot results in an increase in projectile velocity (x2.5 the normal chaingun bullet speed) and in the damage dealt to be equivalent to the old sniper rifle's damage. Once the gun is charged, the player's jets are disabled.

Why do I think it would work
So there are two sides to this gun: the 'fire as fast as a rocket launcher' combat side and the 'charged shot' snipe side.

In combat the gun will usually be used against opponents in air. Maybe a shot from it won't deal as much damage as an RL MA, but it will be way easier to hit an opponent in air with the projectile moving so fast. Against opponents on the ground RL and GL will still prove more useful, since the BR (Ballistic Rifle) doesn't explode. The gun will be somewhat a substitute to CG, however it won't be as sprayish. The ammo limit (15 bullets) will also make people use this gun carefully.

The charged shots will provide a much more risky but a far more rewarding alternative to sniping with the LR. The fact that the jets are disabled when the gun is charged limits the usefulness of the charged mode in combat and encourages sniping in this mode. More dmg= more rewarding shots. No hitscan= more risky.

Hope that at least the explanation is clear
/fingers crossed

Too similar to the laser rifle. You might want to change a few things.
How about a burst weapon?

Ripped of T:V though, Legions must be unique!

I'm always liked the idea of a short range constant energy beam that can be used for dueling, and takes energy away when you use it. Similar to the Lighting Gun out of quake.

I thought about it too. But believe me- it'd be OP and would completely replace CG. Just for the giggles I've been 'tracking' people with my cursor while duelling. It's wayyy too easy.

Back on topic pls ie. all shush and praise my gun ;d

Nay I say! When I say short range, I really mean short range. The CG should be used for chasing, the lg type weapon is used for dueling, and then its hard due to the energy decrease.

OP. Just think of PUGs. Too much boost for the defence.\

THOU SHALL GET BACK ON TOPIC!

Off topic: Who said the Offense can't use it?! And when I 50mean short range, I really do mean SHORT RANGE. like 50m or so.

On topic: The gun sucks and has no viable place in legions.

I always love reading new weapon ideas, but I also think to myself: what's the PURPOSE of the weapon? What void is it meant to fill? What new gameplay opportunities would be opened by introducing this weapon into the game?

I don't like to call weapon ideas bad, because I'm of the opinion no idea is inherently bad until it's been tested. But I do wonder what void this ballistic rifle would fill in current gameplay. It seems like it has a Sniper Rifle side to it, and a Rocket Launcher side to it. We already have both those weapons.

I was hoping for something that will make the 'bring back the old LR' whiners shush and will actually be versatile.
IMO what L:O needs atm isn't guns but modes. The problem is that all modes have been covered, I'm bored and I like lurking around the forum :]

Oh and it's about time I say it somewhere else than in game- I HATE HATE HATE the Chaingun. Not that I can't use it, but I hate that an unavoidable lead spray is the only alternative to an MA atm if the sniper rifle isn't a selected weapon. What I'd like to see is some sort of a compromise ground-air weapon; something that enables easier MAs than RL but harder than CG. At first I thought of a simple chaingun that just shoots thrice as slow but deals three times as much dmg, but i figured that the first few bullets is what counts in CG, so this gun would be OP...

Laser Rifle is already OP.

I'm not saying that your gun idea is good but I really like that revolver-like sniper rifle for the heavy in tribes. Just because it's OP...

So you're rewarding accuracy, except the shots can't really hit anyone in midair because they travel as fast as rockets (possibly with a smaller hitbox, since they're rifle shots), and if you try to charge one up you get groundpounded by rockets and grenades galore.
With a fast-paced game like Legions that involves flying, I doubt people could hit much of anything with this weapon. Just saying.

It'd be very possible to hit things with this weapon.

Since we're not on the pickup server, can you expand on the reasoning behind why it's considered "op?"
Weapons like this are broken because they are piss easy to hit with under 200 meters (a decent player almost never misses a shot) and almost impossible to hit with over 200 meters. All they would do is become a staple dueling weapon, end fights incredibly quickly, and be useless at range. The vast gap in difficulty between hitting close shots and hitting far shots means that the weapons would always be way way better close range than they would at any other engagement distance.
