Shitty world.com is shitty. Do you know how much they put on there prices that you don't need to pay? Value desktops is what you are looking for, but not from there.

The specs that I'd recommend are either a nice intel dual i3 @ a clock speed of 3.3 Ghz or even a AMD Quad-Core for abit more punch if you want to render videos or speed up multitasking.

As for RAM and OS, windows 7 doesn't really require anything over 4, so you'll be better off going with Windows 7 32-bit, but if you want to, you can probably get 8 GB's (So that would be a 4 x 2 GB Ram modules) Although that would require a 64-bit version of windows which maybe be more expensive.

In terms of the graphic card, for the budget you are on, it is probably not worth spending it on a system like Xfire or SLI (Ati's and nVidia's dual and beyond graphic card sytems respectfully.) I'd recommend a 6850 or 6870 due to if you want to play some more modern games - but this does mean a big portion of your budget is being spent on the gaming section.

Its always benefical to build your own as well! You can generally save abit, and you'll learn much more about the inside of the computer. Come see me and Fissurez in IRC too!

Here's my build: (I'm buying the CPU locally, i5 2500k @ 3.3ghz for 180, 220 on newegg, also I'm buying the optical drive, keyboard, and mouse locally. On newegg this would total about 1190/1200)

EDIT: I have two coupons, one for monitor and one for being a newcutsomer, 10 ea so total is 875.

Yeah, bragging much over a build that is way over his budget? Anyhow, Stubbsy has decided to order a premade one from the UK. He's most likely going to be getting an i3 and some form of ATI graphic card.

I have a couple of sites with a nice customizable and cheap computers, but you may want to check the legitimacy of them first (i'm not saying they're dodgy, just that you can never be too careful)

www.ukgamingcomputers.co.uk

www.arbico.co.uk/

They look pretty legit but i would look around for reviews to see if they do anything such as dissolving the compaby by failibg to sell well, effectively voiding your warranty

Note that these sites will probably not include an operating system by default, and you may need to buy one, in which case you can use www.softwareforstudents.co.uk (as i belive you are at that age) its also possible to use an upgrade edition as a full version of windows as that is how you upgrade from xp.

I would reccomend getting an intel i3 or amd athlon/phenom X4 with 4GB ram and a graphics card better or equal to a geforce x50 or an ati x7xx for example a geforce 450 or radeon 5770

£500 is roughly $690 CDN. if the prices on the site are the same for Europe, the only thing he could buy would be this.

Edit: probably not even that when you include tax, shipping and stuff :/

Actually theyre 529 in britain, but its not worth it as he would get a much better deal, more powerful computer and a considerably better graphics card if he buys a prebuilt pc. And considering he wants to play games on it......

Macs are absolutely amazing, but they are not designed for playing games, but for work, which they do brilliantly.

http://www.ukgamingcomputers.co.uk/eros-athlon-ii-gaming-pc-p-128.html

custom spec's
-athlon x4 3.0Ghz quad core.
-4GB Ram
-Nvidia GeForce 450
-500GB hard drive

total - £550

however it won't have an operating system, but you can get win 7 professional for £40 if you want to do a few tricks (and are in education) from http://www.software4students.co.uk/...fessional_64_bit_Upgrade_Edition-details.aspx
(it is an upgrade edition) but don't worry, as the installation process is on the microsoft site itself.
go down to the bit where it says "To install a 64-bit version of Windows 7 on a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows XP"

yes, it is exactly the same as upgrading from windows xp, and i have done this myself so you know it works.

However i would go with this -
http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ConfigureSystem.asp?SystemID=1122
but with a radeon 5770 for £20 extra.

so you will have
-athlon x4 3.0Ghz quad core.
-4GB Ram
-XFX Radeon 5770 - a highish end graphics card
-500GB hard drive

this will come up to £529 INCLUDING the operating system, as well as 3XS apparently having very good reviews and being respected, being a part of scan.co.uk, a good pc component store.

(you could also save yourself £35 if you went to pick it up yourself, i think their shop is in bolton, UK so it will depend on how close you are to there.)
