Srs Question: Why are Macs bad?

I really don't want to incite a Mac vs. PC discussion, but I had to comment on this. I'm running totally free AntiVir solutions for ages (currently http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus in combination with http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispyware.html and http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free) and never had any problems (that could have been prevented by AntiVir software). If you know what you're doing, and if you know how to use the webs responsibly, you don't have to spend a penny for effective security.
While the money aspect is true, the rest isn't. Malware/Spam/Scam/etc. needs lots of recipients to become profitable. As the PC market is larger, the profits are larger. Money definitely is a factor, the price of the system or OS though has nothing to with it.

Personally, I USED to be a huge apple fan. I still have my Pismo. However, that ceased to be when the fateful decision was made in 2006 to switch to Intel x86 CPUs. The PowerPC CPUs they had were their main selling point for me- so much better than x86 (despite the slower upgrade cycle.) Their main downfall was NOT being binary-compatible with x86, but the CPU was just an overall better design.
(There is a rumor that Apple may switch to ARM A15, which I would quite like.) Only last year have Intel Macs beat out the best Power Mac G5 made in terms of raw power.
The OS is decent, but I get the same benefits from Linux, without the consumerization (aka "dumbing down.")
I will admit Macs are great for the creative crowd, because that was the crowd that they were geared toward until recently. However, the Jobs seems to want to sell more *chocolate cookies* to fanbois (to use The Register's term) than those creative professionals who are the reason Apple still exists.

and tbh considering i use both mac & PC i can actually comment on this
- macs are better when using a trackpad.
- macs looks nicer and are usually built better (IMO)

frankly i use my mac to browse the internet and do workie things, and my PC to play games (but am not against switching it about)
tbh the statement "macs are bad" is as stupid as saying "Macs don't get Viruses", and "I don't like macs because i don't like apple / Steve Jobs is a C*ck" to which i reply with this guy.

It's easier to run Windows on a Mac than it is to Hackintosh a PC to run Mac OS on it. Jus' sayin'.

I don't hate Macs. I'm a Linux man primarily. Macs do however have a lot of pros attributed to them that are either misunderstood or the result of happenstance.
Physically, a Mac IS a PC. Intel x86 platform means IBM-PC descendant, that means PC. Macs ceased being their own hardware category when they switched to Intel. (The "nomencalture gaffe, as it were.")
The operating system is nice, but it's basically lobotomized BSD. It IS a little harder to infect an OS X box than it is to infect a Windows box (mostly on account of it being a true multiuser OS. However, the main reason Macs have a lower infection rate is simply that their market share is too small for most cybercrooks to burn develpment time on. If you were a Russian hackscammer, would you prioritize the 90% of the world that's an easy target or the 9ish percent that's harder? Macs are also hella harder to fix if they do get a virus (and the frequency of that has skyrocketed in the past few months.)
I have no love for Windows either. Its market share, again, is its downfall. Not only did it prevent M$ from making Windows truly multiuser (because that would break compatibility with all sorts of legacy *chocolate cookies*) or giving it a fixed and regualted directory system, it's also made it the ripe target for the 'pickins. Every other Winows version sucks, and the versions opposite them just fix fails.

Get a PC in the same price range and you're likely to get similar if not better build quality. My ThinkPad T510 can lay the smackdown on Macbook build quality. If Linux could run exe files w/o an Emulator I wouldn't think twice about replacing Windows 7 with Linux.
I would take a Mac primarily for artsy applications and usage. But I don't have $1,000 just laying around.

I've never owned a mac, but both my brother and my mom have. I think mac is better and that most opinions in this thread will be biased towards non-macs because of price and power. Gamers and other people that use this forum probably look at computers for how much power they can get for as little money as possible, which macs aren't good for. Non gamers may just want: An awesome trackpad, and awesome battery life, a quiet computer, a nice looking computer, and clean system, a warranty you don't have to buy, easy customization, and ways to easily navigate through a computer without being a pro. That's probably what people aren't taking into account right here. I've helped people on PC that don't even know what the control panel is, but it's super easy on a mac just to change your background because it's right there.
