CG sights more like jets?

In a different thread, there was some confusion as to what I meant, so I'll start with a video to demonstrate what I'm talking about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0C3ePqCI-b8

In the first few seconds, the pilot switches to a type of computer-controlled gunsight called LCOS. It's the line that runs between a small cross at the top and a larger circle that floats around the HUD as the plane maneuvers.

I suggested a similar system in the general discussion board, and for some reason the thread was locked. I'm guessing someone thought I was suggesting we all install aimbots on our games for teh uberkillz, but you can see quite plainly that this sort of visual aid isn't the easiest thing to use. There's a reason fighter pilots still prefer to use missiles--it's HARD to hit something in the air with guns.

My original thread was mostly about the math needed to make such a system work in Legions, but everyone thought I was talking about either aimbot or a lead indicator like in Descent: Freespace or Secret Weapons Over Normandy. It's obvious from the video that I'm not talking about a lead indicator. LCOS would be the crappiest lead indicator ever. This system shows an approximation of the line you cut through the air with bullets when you hold down the trigger. It's still up to you to (a) put that line on your target (b) have your target on the proper segment of said line (c) have the timing and reflexes needed to shoot and score.

The original thread is here http://forums.legionsoverdrive.com/threads/legions-physics.737/ if you care about the nerdy physics stuff that I wanted feedback on.

To be absolutely clear, I'm not talking about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvGeSwdL3tM&feature=player_embedded
This is lame. It's great in space sims and less realistic, arcade style flyers. This would be horrible in Legions. I'm not even sure an LCOS would be "good" (I thought it'd be neat, though). I mostly wanted an intelligent discussion of the physics. Since it's talk about modding though, I'm just assuming the original was locked for being on the wrong board, so now I'm here :D .

It may be a good idea to implement a system like this one for new players, maybe a little modified to adjust to the gameplay in legions of course, but I just don't see seasoned players ever liking this idea simply because they already know where to aim to make hits with the CG. Besides I think this system works well with aircraft because of the fact that yourself and your enemy are both in the air all the time, whereas in legions air fights take only a few seconds, escept when you're trying to hit an escaping caper from your base with a rocket jump.
In short I think it may be a good idea, but it will require some modifications to work well with the fast pace of this game.
