Can't play game [MAC]

I've been trying to get the game to go for the past 12 hours now kinda sad. I can download it off the website but can't open the file and when i do i get a page with a bunch of symbols/letters/numbers/etc.....and i'm on a MacBook so if anyone can tell the the steps to get the game on the book i would love you forever lol thanks
