Quick note, if you update your sound drivers, your sound may not work at all , or you will other oddities. Easiest fix it to backup your autoexec, config, and any rets you may have loaded, and reinstall the game, it won't take long.

Just be carefull w/ a VPS that you restart the server reguarly. There are some memory leaks and the server will increase in memory size. On a low end VPS you may run out of memory fairly quickly.

Just got confirmation today that i am graduating my residential treatment .. so either would be ok , but a laptop would be better .. im moving into a sober liiving house so hopefully i can just bring my dekstop but we shall see ...

just a heads up , if you go w/ a VPS server. You need to make sure you choosing a company that is not overselling their VMs. I have run into this problem before. Many VPS's will , by their nature, have some latensy added because of network and cpu buffering. remeber the best servers will be on...
