The main reason is the file size, it's saving (For me at least) an image at 2+mb in size. I'm not sure it can be cut down.

Can't the screenshot(s) be somehow stored in RAM and only saved once the player respawns?
(yeah I don't know what I'm talking about, I just really want this to work without the freeze)

It doesn't matter where it saves them.
Building the image takes processing time that the game needs to run. Thus, we freeze for a second.
