Problem with Lag Spikes and Freezing

I am having trouble with the game freezing every few seconds, during which my network request time out; this was tested by pinging an outside server through the command prompt. I have friends playing on the same wireless network without difficulties. Does anyone have suggestions for how to fix this problem?

You appear to have 3% packet loss to your own router - this is not good.

Are you able to use a network cable to the router? It would help to check this first.
