Loadout System

Does anyone know anything about how the loadout system will work?
Will I be able to choose my own armor class/weapons (with restrictions)? - I've always wanted to play Rocketeer without CG but with nades...
Also, how customizable will it be? Will packs or deployables be added?
These are just my questions; most of them probably can't be answered yet, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Yar, not too sure how much information I can release, but I wouldn't be too surprised if there are some changes in store.

Wasn't there talk about a similar type of loadout system a while back? Where each class would have a point value or something and then players can choose weapons to fill the point value.

That's what I'd like to see.

Some sort of weight mechanic would be nice. Maybe throw in that core idea that Seymour, some others, and I were talking about a while back...

So now we're going to have something like a module system? I mean like having acertain amout of points or something like that assigned to the specific armor type and the weapons you select take a certain amount of points?

Nice sig, redink. Anyways. I think a point system would make sense, also, only allowing one of each. One rocket launcher (instead of two rocket launchers or an RL and the RL mk. II) However, if it is possible to have two of the same type of weapon in the loadout, then the ammo should be shared between the two, because there are the boxes anyways, and that's the only reason I could see somebody wanting both at the same time.

That could be an option... Only use one weapon, but get extra ammo for it...

Alternatively, each thing could add mass, so you might actually get someone make a Sentinel ultra-light equipped with just a CG and almost no armor for the sake of killing mass and giving itself the highest speed in the game...

Yes, I am definitely adding custom loadouts. Of course everything must balance so certain restrictions will apply. For example, Instant-OD is only available on sentinels, sentinel cannot carry a sniper rifle, etc. As we add content like more weapons and "other goodies" more limitations will crop up, but I'm striving to have as much customization as possible. Gameplay does come first though. :p

will the sniper rifle be bumped up? it was overpowered originally and underpowered when it was changed.

i think having the leftover beam that damaged was a good idea as it fitted in with the speed of the game.

i'm sure you guys will work it out.

New sniper wasn't underpowered. You just had to play it differently from the way you played with old sniper. Have thought about that?

i did, but have you ever wondered why the specialized sniper is an outrider with a chaingun as secondary while all the others are raiders with chainguns as secondary?

also, due to the speed of the game and the size of the maps, it caused very little damage and was not often used (in my experience).

Good players were really good at using it and could still dominate game field with the new sniper. You just can't go around headless like a lemming if there was someone capable sniper on opposing team.

Have you heard about Stay on Flag light defender? That's where I would put OR sniper. Zapping incoming and escaping cappers and chaingunning LO's. He doesn't need a RL when he doesn't cap nor chase. Only time he would need a RL is when flag is on the ground and he needs to relocate it or spam it to self.

Not useless at all imo.

What Disci said. For skilled players and teams it remained just as effective as you could ping players a few times to soften them up for your chaingun or for your defense, chasers, etc. The changes also made it less effective for less skilled players, so instead of killing people in one shot they're required to be consistent with their shots.

almost everything dealing with loadouts was a placeholder in legions. Don't get your panties in a twist over them

Ok, you guys deserve to know this.
Part of added customization means that we are moving away from "specialist" weapons. Making 2 sets of a weapon, one being weaker and the other stronger, was just a balance nightmare and often made 1 of the 2 useless or overpowered. Either it is considered a unique weapon on its own or it isn't. If it wasn't unique, just more powerful, it should be scrapped and/or redesigned. This makes adding new weapons much easier too, since each can have a specific role in use and we don't have to worry about the standard+specialist aspect.

So that means the specialist chaingun and laser weapons are gone. Cluster will be balanced as a separate individual weapon (not OP+useful), and RLS is also being redesigned. So you might enjoy having the normal grenade + the Cluster, or both the new RLS and the Cluster in the same loadout. Class limitations may apply like Outrider can't carry Cluster (still testing if that is necessary or not). More details will emerge as we finalize all the aspects in correlation with adding new material to the game.
