Demo Drop

Alright guys, I believe it's time to put these demos to good use. Post your own demos and tell us what's special about it. Is there a sweet play bookmarked? Is the entire demo a marvelous masterpiece of gameplay? Do you need help getting better?

How to Record, Watch, and Get To Your Demos
You begin recording demos by clicking the "Demos" button in your in-game menu and changing "Record Demos" to "Yes".

You watch your demos by returning to the "Demos" button at the in-game menu and loading the selected demo.

You access your demos out of game by going into your Legions/live/legions/data/recording folder.

While you upload your demos, I ask that we use a uniform naming system in order to keep things organized.

Bookmarking
Bookmarks set a time stamp in your recordings so you and others can fast-forward to that time to see a specific moment in your gameplay. You can create bookmarks while playing in-game or while watching your demo by pressing F2. During playback, you can fast-forward to this bookmarked time by pressing F3. If your bookmark occurs after the point you want to fast-foward to, you need to bind a key to the "demo hud" in your options. Using this key will bring up a window where you can enter the amount of seconds you want to seek to before the next bookmark occured.

For example, if you type in 15 and press "set time", it will seek 15 seconds before the next bookmark.

Naming System

PlayerName.Map.Comment.Date

*Remember to rename both your demo and the txt file to the same thing, otherwise your bookmarks will not work

In order to distinguish between other people's demos, we need to throw in our name first and foremost (your most well-known name in the community, please). The map is information in case anyone in seeking demos from a certain map (you can say MultipleMaps if there are multiple bookmarked clips from different maps). The comment tells you what specifically is in this demo. And lastly, the date and time is retained from demo's original name (European style YY-MM-DD and HH-MM-SS). This may all seem a little bit complicated and excessive, but trust me when I say it is needed. Just check out this archive of Starsiege: Tribes demos and see how much of a mess they can be:
http://files.powdahound.com/gaming/tribes-1/demos

Here's some example names:

Fire.Frostbyte.PubChase.13-05-17
This is a demo of mine that showcases an entire pub where I chase.

Jicker.Elegiac.CapRoutes.13-05-18
This would be a demo of Jicker performing routes.

Blackhawk.Reactor.DoubleMidair.13-05-15
This would be a demo of a double midair Blackhawk got.

Shaska.MultipleMaps.BigPlays.13-05-16
This demo would include big plays over multiple maps all bookmarked.

Posting System
Use this template while uploading your demos in order to instruct users what they are looking at and where to look. In the instructions section, post the amount of time before each bookmark the play happens so the users can set the time to seek to.

Demo Name:
Bookmarks:
Comments:

Demo Link:

You have to upload your demo + bookmark (zip them together) somewhere in order to share it (the upload button on this forum does not support the proper extension for demos). Not sure what the best file sharing service is, I use www.mediafire.com

Organization Tips
Some tips on keeping organized.
1. First off, keep your demos short. You end a demo recording by leaving a game, so make sure you do this often (every game).
2. In order to weed out the bad demos, frequently go back and delete every demo that doesn't have a text document with the same name. If you have a good game with no great plays that you bookmarked that you'd like to share, make sure you bookmark before you leave the game just you know it's a good demo.
3. Only bookmark the really good stuff that you know you'll want to show off again.
4. Go through your good bookmarked demos and rename the best of the best stuff with the naming system above to sort it out from the rest of the demos.

Community Frag Films
Everything you post here has a chance to be used in community-wide movies. This is not a guarantee. I ask all movie makers to give credit to the player performing the play. Do not use someone else's footage and pretend it was yourself.

tl;dr
Always record while playing
Rename demos to this format: PlayerName.Map.Comment.Date
Upload to a site (megafire, filredropper)
Use posting template (above in red) and comment

Let me remind all of you... Please include footage mainly from the objective of the game type. If its capture the flag, include game changing plays that you did yourself by killing the carrier, capping the flag, or making/catching a pass. Unless its some godlike shot from across the map or something most MA's in duels are pretty bland.

I would also recommend not including strictly MA's throughout the bookmarks. Keep the variety appealing, show off some Core movement plays, team work, flag bounces. crazy passes, ect.

Looking forward to reviewing the community's demos!

Bookmarks: 6:05(ingame) is a good time to start recording
Comments: The highlight for this demo is the midair, but it's a clutch midair. Everything but that part is pretty bad gameplay.
Instructions: Fast foward to around 6:05. Then start recording and after I get the midair, stop recording.

Edit: Included the bookmark in the link and found the date.
Also, I haven't used the seek timer before, so I have no idea how it works.

Bookmarks should be a requirement.

Si

People should add them afterwards while playing it back if they forget , pressing the button works just the same as while your playing and will set one... or if you already have some, pressing it earlier will insert between and keep the rest.

Remember that the demos are dated before you rename them. Make sure you keep the dates while you do that. Also post the renamed .txt documents with the bookmarks for the play next time and tell us how long before the bookmark should we set the seek timer to.

Made a bookmark file for you with that time here, set bookmark seek to zero: http://www.filedropper.com/voxfrostbyteclutchrlmaunknowndate

Please update your original post with the new posting template and thanks!

Sick shot. I took the liberty to write a section in the thread about bookmarking and to make a bookmark for this recording. Make sure you guys read the parts of the thread that pertain to you. I also renamed the file with the naming system; please update your post with these links:

I think this system is a bit more complicated than it should be. If you have a demo with nice bookmarks, simply zip them together and post it. No need for renaming them as it just takes more time (since you probably need to rename the bookmark file as well). Attaching a basic 'read me' text file briefly explaining the demo would be better. So in total you'd zip together 3 files.

You could keep the same general forum post structure though (bookmarks, comments, etc), so we know if it's worth looking at.

http://mega.co.nz is also another hosting option.

Demo Name: Fire.Frostbyte.HangingNade.13-05-20
Bookmarks: Two
Comments: MA blocked incoming capper followed by greande MA, then direct shot another incoming capper, over the hill fade-away B-A-L-L-E-R nade, followed by sick MA. The second bookmark is a nice little midair.
Instructions: The first demo happens in the fourth map. :( Seek 30 seconds before the first bookmark, 15 seconds before the second.

Since it takes so long to get to the play, I also recorded the first play here: http://www.twitch.tv/afireinasa/c/2312325
